Good aftercare helps the gum heal and protects a new dental implant. Follow the instructions given for your own surgery, because the details may differ.

During the first 24 hours
- Bite on gauze for the time advised.
- Do not rinse or spit forcefully.
- Do not touch the area with fingers or tongue.
- Use a cold pack on the outside of the face if advised.
- Rest and avoid heavy exercise.
Food and drink
Choose soft, cool or lukewarm foods such as curd, soft rice, soup that is not hot, or mashed vegetables. Avoid hard, sharp, spicy and very hot food. Do not smoke or drink alcohol.
Cleaning your mouth
Brush the other teeth normally. Clean near the surgery only as instructed. The dentist may recommend a special mouth rinse for a short period.
Medicines
Take pain medicine or antibiotics only as prescribed. Do not place tablets directly on the gum.
Call the clinic if
Bleeding will not stop, swelling becomes worse after several days, pain keeps increasing, fever develops, or the implant area feels loose.
